AudioMemo is a recording app for Mac made by BookAI. It is built on a simple idea: what you record is yours.
Your recordings stay on your Mac AudioMemo records the sound playing on your Mac and your microphone, and saves the files in a folder on your Mac that you choose. Recording, playback, renaming and converting all happen on your Mac, without an internet connection. We never receive your recordings unless you choose to send one to Osmi (see below).
No account, no tracking
Recording with AudioMemo needs no sign-up and no account. It contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking tools, and it does not collect information about how you use the app.
Permissions
Microphone: to record your voice.
System audio recording: to record the sound playing on your Mac.
Both are used only while you are recording. You can turn them off at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
When you send a recording to Osmi
Osmi is BookAI's transcription service. Sending a recording to Osmi is optional, and it starts only when you click "Transcribe with Osmi".
First you sign in to Osmi with Google or Apple, in the standard macOS sign-in window. AudioMemo never sees your password. Your sign-in is kept in your Mac's Keychain so you don't have to sign in every time; you can sign out at any time in AudioMemo's settings.
After you sign in, AudioMemo uploads that one recording to your Osmi account over an encrypted connection, along with its file name, size, format, length and the AudioMemo version. Nothing is uploaded before you sign in.
Your browser then opens Osmi so you can start the transcript. If you don't continue within 24 hours, the uploaded file and its details are deleted automatically.

Sharing When you use the share or "Show in Finder" options, the file goes to the app or place you pick. That is between you and that app; we are not involved.
Children AudioMemo is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
